What's that old phrase? "It's the economy, stupid!"
First off, nobody's making much money. I mean, normal people, not hedge fund weasels. Not drug dealers. Not corrupt politicians and their wives and families (Bill DeBlasio among others). Those types aren't buying trendy smell because some silly pop star is hawking it.
One of the first things you realize you can do without...is disposable garbage like cologne and perfume. First off, it offends more people than it attracts. Some are simply allergic to what is literally toilet water.
Second, who believes that celebrities actually wear this junk? I've met some of the most beautiful and famous women in the world...and they did NOT get up my nose. Not once. I never said, "Wow, you smell great..." because they didn't smell like anything at all. They didn't wear perfume.
The ones who hawk a "scent" are doing it for the money, and there just is too much supply and little demand. Dedicated followers of fashion have enough to spend their money on...from their new boots to their panties. The credit card tends to get maxed out before they can accessorize with yet more idiot jewelry for their ears or noses...or to spend a fortune on some stinko that a celebrity just sniffed and said "OK, put my name on it."
"Normal" people don't even spend money on a movie or on music...they download it free. Why should a company think that this same person is going to spend money on a needless item that has a celebrity's name when they don't support the actual person's art?
It's nice to see a headline that sends the message: DON'T THINK BIEBER IS GOING TO GIVE YOU A GOOD RETURN ON YOUR INVESTMENT.
What we need more of in this world is simple: FRESH AIR.
