Oh, no, the war is lost. Chapter 11 bankruptcy is here.
IF you never heard of Hastings, congrats. Neither did I, really. I just noticed that one of the cheapest sellers on eBay was something called "GOHastings."
I figured this was some kind of jobber that bought CDs and DVDs wholesale and tossed 'em on eBay and Amazon for the lowest possible price, helping to make those items as worthless as possible.
It turns out, Hastings is a budget Blockbuster, a junior Best Buy for people trying to get cheap entertainment dirt cheap.
It's not a surprise that this "chain" of stores would be located primarily in the South, where rent is cheap. How else do you sell your Patti Page and Meatloaf CDs for $1.99? Or...make 'em 99 cents and hope to make a little more on the shipping you charge eBay customers.
That they can't even make it anymore, tells you just how lousy the market is for anything you can't download and duplicate. Hey, it's hard to find a computer that has a slot for a CD or DVD. It's not that easy to even find a CD/DVD player. Most Millennials use their iPad and computers for THAT kind of thing.
Maybe GOHastings on eBay will change their name to GOODBYEHastings.
Why treasure CDs or DVDs or books, even? You can't take it with you, and the odds of you even living a natural life time get less and less.
