I just don't think that a brain-washed douche of a twat is in the same league with vicious fat bastards like "Son of Sam" and Chapman. For one thing, both of those assholes are now Jesus Freaks, happily denying what they did and insisting Christ forgives them for rampaging through NYC. One of them murdered a bunch of women, and the other shot Lennon.
66 years old, wrinkly and canned for over 40 years, Leslie has been a model prisoner. She doesn't say "Jesus forgives me." She's admitted to her horrific act and has used her time to work hard helping other prisoners better themselves. The parole board approved her release, after denying it time after time.
But gravy-brained space cadet governor Jerry Brown has used his veto power to keep her in the slammer.
For out-of-towners who don't know, Jerry Brown make Boris Johnson look sane. Jerry was called every name in the book when he moonwalked into the governorship...a young Bobby Kennedy type, a Ronstadt-fucker with radical ideas about changing laws. Once elected, most figured California would have legalized marijuana and orgies. That's how far out he was.
But like quite a few "hip" politicians, he served a few terms, didn't make huge changes, didn't springboard himself to the Presidency, and faded away. His comeback was quite a surprise.
After two terms of Ahhhnold "The Terminator," California sank into debt. The amusement and fun over having yet another movie-star governor (who can forget REAGAN) had the fruits and nuts of California begging Jerry Brown to return to office.
He's tried to turn the budget around. He's made it easier for anyone to get "medical marijuana." BUT...the elderly Mr. Brown isn't quite so hippie-dippie as to let a misguided hippie chick get out of jail after FORTY fucking years.
IF you believe in the "system," and rehabilitation, then you should believe in redemption.
Otherwise, why wasn't Leslie put to death in the electric chair 40 years ago?
Either you believe she can be saved, or you put her down like the animal you think she is.
And make no mistake, over 40 years ago, she WAS an animal. She and the rest of the Manson cunts were an obnoxious, evil bunch. They wore their swastikas, pledged allegiance to Charlie, laughed about the brutal murders they committed, and most everyone wished they were all dead.
BUT...over the years, while Manson remained a jabbering psycho, a few of them declared remorse. Leslie used her time behind bars to tutor other prisoners and make a difference in the lives of dozens and dozens of people. Does it make up for being an accomplice to murders? If you think not, then you'd have to think that the judge would've said, "LIFE IN JAIL WITHOUT PAROLE."
I defer to the parole board that denied her so often. They are the experts. They aren't swayed by relatives of the deceased, or by Liberals who believe in a second chance. They interviewed this woman over and over again and not just her, but hundreds, even thousands of criminals. They know more than Jerry Brown or anyone else, who is a threat and who isn't.
No question, a petition signed by over 100,000, had to factor into Brown's thinking. Why should he piss off so many people just for one wrinkly cunt? So Leslie can only hope that she'll be around two years from now, or four years from now, and Brown won't be. And that maybe a different governor will follow the recommendation of a judge and a parole board.
An irony here is that Jerry's father was ALSO a governor of California...and killed a man.
That man was Caryl Chessman.
Caryl Chessman was a punk. He was arrogant, pseudo-intellectual, and a career criminal. He was a petty thief, mostly. To this day, there's some debate over whether he crossed the line and became the perverted "Red Light Bandit." Chessman insisted he knew who the "Bandit" was, but his code of honor was to not fink on him. He insisted he was a crook but not a pervert...he wanted money but didn't need to force women to blow him.
What isn't in doubt, is that the "Red Light Bandit" didn't kill anyone. But Jerry Brown's father decided that Chessman should die. Or rather, that the death penalty be upheld. Frankly, he didn't like Chessman, and was very pissed off that Chessman had managed to smuggle a manuscript out of prison, and make Capital Punishment a big issue in the country. So it was, that Jerry Brown's father killed Caryl Chessman by denying a last-minute appeal.
Brown's father would eventually come around to feel that he'd made a mistake. California eventually abolished the death penalty; another irony.
So it's a bit of a surprise that Jerry Brown would be so confident that HE hasn't made a mistake by actively interfering with a parole board's expertise. In essence, he continues to deprive someone of having a life, just as his father ended Chessman's life entirely.
The odds are very, very slim that this woman would be another Jack Abbott. Abbott was a literate prisoner who impressed Norman Mailer. Mailer fought hard for Abbott's parole. Paroled, Abbott lost his mind in a restaurant and killed a waiter. Mailer was shaken; speechless. He'd been taken in, fooled by a violent psychopath.
Is Jerry Brown sure Leslie is still a violent psychopath? I doubt it. I think he believes that the family of her victims wants her to stay canned, and he'd rather appease 100,000 petitioners and be a hero to them. He doesn't care that what he's done is in opposition to the judge that did NOT give her life in jail without the possibility of parole, and it's in opposition to the parole board.
The idiots who love Manson, wear Manson t-shirts, listen to his shitty music, and read and re-read the books on him and chuckle over the murder scene photos...THEY should be in jail. Jerry should be looking for ways to lock THOSE fuckheads up. They glorify the bastard, and Leslie does not.
Jerry Brown the Ronstadt fucker, whose father murdered Caryl Chessman, has made a very, very questionable decision. Yes, there are some powerful reasons to insist that once you cross a certain line, you can NEVER go back, but on the other side, there's the fact that parole was always an option, and that experts (such as a parole board) may know something about forgiveness and redemption.
