Take a Load off Fandom

One of the weird things about GooTube is that some "fans" don't just mangle a favorite song with an inept cover version. They get ambitious. They go all MTV on it, gathering all their friends to ACT OUT THE SONG. Or...they find an animation program...or they do a slide show. Jeeeeeez.

"Sophie" is a song that gets a lot of abominable cover versions AND a lot of weird "tributes." Right, take the woman's song and add your own weird visuals. Somehow use The Sims, and have them go through the lines of the song. "Sophie can't finish her dinner..."

How about get some of your unsightly friends to do bad acting jobs? OK, take two, "Sophie can't finish her dinner..."

What's the compensation here? The compliment? "Some people are so moved by my song, they want to do a version..."

I can't say I feel THAT sorry for people who see a few idiots in the audience glowering. Too bad if they have to sign a few autographs, or endure some pail heads who do bad cover versions. The price of fame is to deal with counterfeit pinheads trying to kiss ass and get SOMETHING or other in return.

Fame's rewards are sweet enough, with money topping the list. "Fame is a good deodorant," Liz Taylor laughed, but she laughed all the way to the bank by actually marketing her own perfume, which was also a good deodorant.

Let's say the odds for any songwriter to enjoy a cover version on a legit label, or a cover version on GooTube are SLIM to NONE.
