The drawling dickhead hauled Shelley to his show from crazy-friendly Texas (where Shelley disappeared as her acting career ebbed). After much ballyhoo and teaser-ads, the show aired, and people were dismayed at how bat-shit crazy Shelley had become. Aside from becoming fat, she had become a typical Southern nutjob, carrying on about the Bermuda triangle, people following her, and the rest of the paranoid shit. Dr. Phil, the glaring goading goofball, popped questions at her to elicit even more bizarre responses. Ultimately, viewers were told that Duvall was going to be in treatment at a clinic.
Except you go in VOLUNTARILY, and after a few days, Shelley demanded to go back home. And did.
That's when the twist of Krazy Kubrick came.
As every Huelbig knows, Kubrick is the daughter of the genius who gave us "2001 a Space Odyssey" and two violent classics that maniacs love: "A Clockwork Asshole" and "The Shining Imbecile." Oooh, who doesn't like to see chavs on a rape spree, or a woman who looks like Olive Oyl put through REAL sadism at the hands of a director looking for authenticity?
Kubrick announced SHE would take charge. On what authority? Because Shelley made "The Shining" with her creepy Daddy? Was she trying to to step ahead of any claims from Robert Altman's family, since Altman directed Shelley in "Popeye?"
GOFUNDME! Oh yes, GOFUNDME, the answer to EVERYTHING.
Poor Duvall. She was convinced people were after her, and didn't think it might be SCIENTOLOGISTS.
Isn't it nice that America houses all kinds of shady organizations, like SCIENTOLOGY, and EBAY and GOOGLE, which hide behind fortress compounds, and answer to nobody? They all commit heinous acts that are utterly illegal, but NOBODY enforces the law. They always get a free pass.
Duvall is 67. So how old is her mother Bobbie? The one Krazy Kubrick spoke with? 84 at the youngest? Did she speak to Bobbie at all? Does SAG-AFTRA monitor whatever pension money they send out? How about the government Medicaid benefits? WHO is in charge of THAT stuff?
The bottom line here, is that this is a vivid example of how the mentally ill are NOT treated in America. Here's a famous woman, exploited by a goofy redneck on TV, with nobody emphatically standing up for her and explaining what, if anything, is being done. Dr. Phil didn't go into any detail of how one treats a paranoid like Shelley. Shock therapy? Drugs? Daily reassurance that the Bermuda Triangle is NOT between her legs? WHAT is going on with Duvall at this moment, and is she simply being placated like a 4 year-old and kept in a room with no sharp objects?
And what of the thousands upon thousands who are JUST like her, but NOT stars? Are they all locked up? Drugged up? Abused and exploited by anyone from a sex predator to a Scientologist?
There was enough of the real Duvall left, for the actress to go on TV and seek help. Not enough for her to stay at the clinic that was paid for by Dr. Phil's staff (and not SAG-AFTRA or Medicare or Krazy Kubrick). Her fate remains uncertain. Her story is way off to the side, with most of the attention today focusing on how wonderful it was that George Michael had gay sex with strangers, and how sad Kim Kuntrashian looked as she minced around town with her hubby Kuntye.
