"MUSIC should be freeee. Artists should tour and sell t-shirts!"
Which is almost like saying "Bus drivers should do their job freeee, and they should sell t-shirts. Or put up a tip jar."
Funny thing: this shit does not work. Which is why GROUPON is begging people to buy heavily discounted tickets to PANIC! AT THE DISCO and Weezer.
Awwww, how soon everyone forgets. A few years ago, Weezer could tour on their own. So could PANIC! Now? All they can do is discount the seats.
"SENIORMOLE" supplies the other answer:
"They should retire. Why the kerfuffle? Don't hurl poo. Don't be SILLY. If you can't make a living, why, hang it up. It's obviously a band's fault if they can't sell tickets. Why, drop the ticket prices. If albums should be a dollar, a concert seat should be no more than five. Then the place will be filled! What a simple solution! And if you can't make a profit?
Retire on your royalties! What? I was one who said royalties are poo, that copyright is copy wrong, and I was giving away all the music? Oh well. It's a kerfuffle. Let me have another glass of nice, nice wine for myself! These aren't my troubles. Oh, look in the mirror, and I see an old asshole. Deja Vu all over again..."
Here are two well known groups who are still not quite arthritic or disease-ridden to not stop lugging their instruments around from town to town. Who knows what ups and downs they take to deal with it. And they still have to discount themselves to draw a crowd. Many established rock bands don't even make a profit. They break even, but go out because it shows they're alive, even if they're all turning a whiter shade of hair. Even if only the lead singer commands a real salary and the rest of the band is hired help working for the credit line.
Oh well. Greed and stupidity rule, and their bastard spawn is indifference. How lucky for the "SENIORMOLE" types. They are "on the government teat" or enjoying a pension from some school or office where they dozed for 30 years. They are ENTITLED to all the music FREEEE. They might go to a live show IF it's convenient and not too expensive.
Their answer to pathetic way GROUPON has to try and paper the seats of a hall and a group that is trying to break even often can't? "Oh, it's a kerfuffle! Why hurl your poo? All we music fans want is nice music. And we either will only pay what WE think is fair, or we won't pay at all!"
