It was back in 2007 that Viacom got angry about YouTube assholes posting their TV shows...and YouTube being able to smirk because DMCA laws allow Internet websites to ignore violations and set their own policies for take-down.
Meaning, YouTube was under no obligation to block users from posting episodes of Viacom-owned sitcoms, and could simply wait for Viacom to laboriously file detailed complaints on EACH VIOLATION, with URL and user ID and all the rest...and then take, oh, a week, two, three...to pull the item (and then let the user re-post if they felt like it).
So what's happened since 2007? A lot of lawyers made money.
And now, an "undisclosed" agreement, which means Viacom is in bed with GOOGLE and GOOGLE has won again. Of course it has. You can't do a fucking thing in this world without GOOGLE being involved in your life. So you better accept it. You work together to screw everybody else. GOOGLE wanted to go into the auction business and crush eBay. Ebay found out, and threatened to pull their millions of bucks in ads from GOOGLE. So a truce was made. You lick my ass, I'll lick yours. If you don't have a long enough tongue, you're fucked. GOOGLE just rolls right over you no matter what you do. Notice how they played around with Viacom for over 6 years, till Viacom caved. And they caved because they realized they were going to have to work with GOOGLE in the future.
What the hell. All Viacom has to do is raise the price on everything to pay for their compromise, while their executives continue to make a fortune. And GOOGLE? Oh, they always win. Always. They've turned YouTube into a haven for commercials...it's rare when you can watch some stupid 2 minute "you've got to see this" clip, without a banner on the bottom or a delay while a commercial is run. YouTube had none of that shit before GOOGLE took it over.
And so it goes...
