iPod? Obsolete. "Why, why say the junk in the yard..."

Isn't technology wonderful?

How many times have YOU upgraded to a new cell phone? How many times have YOU bought the same Beatles album on different media?

At the latest "OOOOOOOOHHHH" event from Apple, where some rich dweebs "unveil" their latest improvements in phones and laptops and tablets and giving everyone a nervous breakdown, there was mutters about the fate of the humble iPod.

Apple hasn't "improved" it in years, and seems to be phasing it out.

My question is whether this item will be extinct, obsolete, or a fucking collectors item.

Some Apple freaks collect everything the company makes. An original Mac can be worth a fortune.

The iPod? Maybe not. They made tons of 'em. They're cute for a display on a shelf, but they ain't jewels. The Nano 3, new in its box, is just $60 on eBay.

The Nano 4th generation, new in its box, with that whopping 8GB, is $120.

This is the sneaky beauty that also has a camera in it.

But don't recall $120 as the original selling price years ago. In other words, if you bought some of these as an investment, you're screwed.

People just shrug: "We've got music and cameras in our cell phones. Who needs variety? Who on the planet doesn't walk around with a fucking cell phone? Maybe a jogger would still want an iPod on a wrist strap, and leave the house with only that and the house keys? Fuck that jogger (and if that jogger is in Central Park, it could happen).

A time to be made, then made obsolete...turn, turn, turn OFF.
