I've mentioned his name before. This world no longer has a Lenny Bruce. It no longer has even a Sam Kinison (who was something of an asshole) or Bill Hicks (ditto, but without the heavy metal morons egging him on). Some of the counter-culture survivors from the 60's are either virtually inactive, or have become crusty humorless conservatives.
There isn't even David Letterman to give a stinging remark during a monologue. Kimmel is unreliable, Fallon is a puppy and the others are too nauseating to mention. But once a week, there's Bill Maher on cable. The atheist spends most of his "Real Time" bitching about current events with a panel of publicity whores of one type or another, but at least there's a monologue. And at the end you're rewarded with his sourly amusing "New Rules" and sometimes a caustic final essay.
He's not always funny but he's usually right. Like his Frey-Bowie Tweet. It may be "Politically Incorrect" (the name of his old show which was canned by ABC for being too politically incorrect). It may not be hilarious. But it's right.
