Remember when you cared about a new KINKS record?

Curb your enthusiasm. Get back, get back, get right back in the line...

No, I didn't go running down to the bookstore when Ray was signing his autobiography. The thought of a bus to the train to the train to the bus, or an hour in transit and then an HOUR on a fucking line listening to stupid fuckhead KINKS fans babble about RAY AND DAVE, and then to see The Great One write his name and then an hour to get back home...no thanks.

In the old days, such a thing was a possibility. I might've even rehearsed what I could possibly say to momentarily impress the guy into smiling at me, or personalizing the book. No, I'm no HOOBASTANK.

And no, at this point I'm not counting the days till I can get to a record store (a WHAT?) and BUY a 2 CD "LEGACY" addition of "Everybody's In Show Biz."

When was the last time I played that thing!

It's gonna be another of those, "Oh, it's on Kickass, ok..." deals. I'll download it, might not even get around to it for weeks and weeks, and then because it's nothing but a fucking download, I'll listen to it once, maybe only select tracks (I sure as hell can avoid some of the more obvious duds) and that'll be it.

Uh, yeah. That was a pretty weak studio album, wasn't it?

Only "Celluloid Heroes" was a really good song, and even then, it was pretty hokey. I can assure you, Ray, that if you stepped on Mickey Rooney, he would NOT turn around and smile. He'd punch you in the nuts.

As for the live tracks, yes, "Alcohol" was very amusing live. That was about it. "Lola" was fucked up because the audience assholes wanted to sing along, and the song became some kind of idiot anthem. And JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, Ray and his fucking "DAY-O" bullshit. If there's any reason to go see this asshole in concert, knowing he'll start shouting "DAY-O" and "WAY-O" absolutely kills it. No, not even of the fabulous DAVE joins you and you perform 69 on a revolving Wheel of Fortune.

Ah, a few tracks nobody's ever heard of? Like "You're Looking Fine?" I'm sure it's not a gem. To hear a different sloppy version of "Alcohol?" Oh, an early version of "Money Talks" under a different title. Yeah, you can see a few bits and crumbs here that, like most anything you'd download off Dime or a blog, might give you a flickering moment of interest. Barely. As Rodney used to say, "I'm too old to do cartwheels." Who in their right mind can be that excited about leftovers from a band that was rarely very good after the 70's? Yes, Ray's first solo album was not disappointing, but the second one was. I can't say I've played it much. More than anything from DAVE, I suppose.

I don't know about the Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues, but I sure have the "Depressed, Unmotivated Anhedonia Blues" when it comes to stuff like this. Besides, I'm not a 20-something anymore. I don't have the luxury of sitting around getting high and listening to fucking records all night.
