He wrote a few iconic guitar riffs, but none in the past, what, 20 or 30 years?
Who knows (or cares, really) if he contributed some or all of the music to the Stones' dozen or so really great songs (including maybe TWO melodic ballads in their entire career).
He's a walking icon. That's what he does. We're happy he can walk. And everywhere he goes, people recognize him.
So he's coasted year after year with "be glad we bothered" tour albums, some dopey children's book, and now a long-awaited (by nobody) solo album to go with his previous scratchy-voiced tuneless pieces of flat shit.
He's doing the minimum, like ONE print interview, and everyone's trying to find SOMETHING he said to get excited about.
Oh, he didn't like SGT. PEPPER. He's SLAGGING THE BEATLES.
The only amusing thing is that the NY Post continues, every chance they get, to call him, or Jagger, a "wrinkly rocker."
Keith's entitled to not like "Sgt. Pepper" at this point, if he thinks it'll get people to pay attention to him.
There are probably quotes from years back where he said the Stones couldn't touch that album, and were stupid to have tried (with "Satanic Majesties...").
Anyone over 50 still want to debate The Beatles vs The Stones?
There were a few predictable "comments."
The "amusing" one, is from some pompous Stones fan who doesn't offer an opinion, but a pronouncement. HE believes (so it must be so) that The Beatles were no better than Mel Torme. They weren't "authentic."
Believe that? Some drip of a snot who has no creds at all, can make that declaration and it's printed. Hooray for the Internet.
The Beatles, who innovated, who set pop music on its ear, and led all of the greats of jazz and pop (including Torme, Fitzgerald, Sinatra, etc.) to cover their works, weren't "authentic?" And what was, O Authority? Rogers & Hammerstein? Cole Porter? Didn't they just copy Stephen Foster? Who copied Gilbert & Sullivan who copied Mozart opera? JEEEZ.
The Stones were "authentic?" How? By ripping off black blues riffs? By ripping off a black singing style? What was authentic about "As Tears Go By?"
Then he drops the fucking Velvet Underground as the authentic and artistic rock act. Pretty hilarious.
He should go listen to Wilderness Road and their parody song "Authentic British Blues," which makes fun of all those cliche Cream morons (and the Stones) who stomped around doing white boy imitations of black harmonica players and blind ol' jazz singers.
Bottom line, will I buy Keith's new CD? Of course not. Will I downloaded it FREEEEEE? Maybe. Listen to it more than once? Highly unlikely.
PS, it probably won't be "authentic," because it'll just be a copy of the previous wearisome shit he did as a solo act.
