SERENA LOSES TO AN OLD, BONY ITALIAN

The tennis world is disgusted, but I'm greatly amused.

THIS is what FUN is about. It's about an UPSET. It's about somebody who was a 300-to-1 underdog (and had never defeated Serena in her life) wins BIG.

It's as unexpected and delightful as if the entire audience at a Viley Virus concert walked out the door after the first song, and emerged around the corner to cheer wildly for Rosanne Cash.

Too bad I missed it, but by this time, I'm a bit jaded. Upsets are rare, and it's disgusting to sit through most any tennis match live, with the jarring commercials every few minutes, and the distracting crawls and the increasingly inept announcers.

Serena had defeated her sister Venus (again) in 3 sets. But after winning the first set, nobody figured she'd lose two in a row to a nobody. If anything, she'd be the true champion she is, and rally to win the final set. No.

The humble woman who won actually apologized to the crowd and to Serena. She was aware she'd "spoiled the fun" of both a Serena GRAND SLAM and Serena tying Steffi Graf for most boring victories. No apology needed. Nothing against Serena except that like Steffi, constant winning is boring. THIS was really FUN.
